Objectives of Employment Insurance System (EIS)
EIS was first implemented in January 2018 and administered by the Social Security Organization or SOCSO. The EIS seeks to provide temporary financial assistance for up to six months to workers who are retrenched. It also aims to provide extended welfare coverage and aid in job search.

The following assistance are offered to employees who lost their jobs:-

  1. Instant cash assistance
  2. Assistance in finding new jobs
  3. Increase employability

EIS Allowance and Benefits

The following monetary allowances and benefits will be provided to employees:-

  • Job search allowance
  • Early Re-employment allowance
  • Training fee
  • Reduced income allowance
  • Training allowance
  • Job relocation and counselling

Exclusion from EIS
  • Age 18 and below
  • Age 60 and above
  • New employee age 57 and above
  • Public sector
  • Self-employed/sole proprietors
  • Domestic workers
  • Foreign workers
  • Employer with no employee

EIS Rates

Under EIS, employees will be given a portion of the insured salary from the 0.4 percent monthly contribution. Employers must contribute 0.2%, while employees will contribute the remaining 0.2%. The contributions will be on a fixed rate based on the employees’ salary. Monthly contributions start from 5 cents for workers earning RM30 a month, while the maximum amount of contribution is capped at RM7.90 for those earning RM 4,000 and above.

EIS Claim Process
  1. Loss of employment
  2. Assessment and verification of loss of employment
  3. Preparation of supporting documents
  4. Submit to EIS Board within 60 days from the date considers has lost of employment
  5. Approval of claim

Following Not Constitute Loss of Employment
  • Voluntary resignation
  • Expiry of contract of service
  • Retirement
  • Termination by mutual consent without terms and condition
  • Completion of work in accordance with the terms of contract of service
  • Misconduct
